Minister Tekin makes statement on high school education duration! Will it be reduced from 4 years to 2 years?
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has made statements regarding the debates on shortening the duration of high school education.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has evaluated the rumors regarding the reduction of high school education from 4 years to 2 years. Responding to questions from members of the press before the AKP group meeting held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Tekin stated that there is currently no such study underway.
Tekin stated that they are conducting analyses on the duration of education in Turkey and international indicators, adding, "If a demand arises in the public opinion on this matter, we will evaluate it together with the relevant units. However, this is a matter within the authority of the legislative body. We will also convey our evaluations to the legislative body. For now, we are only following the discussions in the public sphere."
Minister Tekin noted that reports regarding the shortening of the education duration are being examined by scientists, academics, and teachers, stating, "If we make a decision, we will share it with the relevant political mechanisms."
