Minister Tekin's statement on compulsory education: Will the model change?

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin answered journalists' questions about the 4+4+4 compulsory education system before the AK Party Group Meeting at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Tekin gave the following response to the question, 'Will there be a change in compulsory education?':

"I am happy about the existence of discussions regarding education. Let it be discussed. If a demand arises in the public, we will carry out our work. It is being discussed that some negative areas have emerged regarding 12-year compulsory education, both in international reports and in political debates. We will also evaluate the discussions and reach a decision. Currently, we are only monitoring. We have a presidency for monitoring. They are tasked with monitoring both policy areas and discussions and producing the necessary solutions. They are following them as well.

There is no problem from our perspective, but there are some segments in the field, such as the business world, that express their discomfort regarding 12-year compulsory education. They say they are having difficulty in procuring intermediate staff. We are not currently engaged in any study; we are just monitoring."
