'Salafi oath' scandal at a school in Istanbul... Investigation launched

Recently, footage showing students at the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Imam-Hatip Middle School in Arnavutköy, Istanbul, collectively reciting a text known in the public eye as the "Salafi oath" was circulated via social media. Following these developments, the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education has officially begun an inquiry into the matter.

In a statement released by the Directorate, it was noted that the incident was determined to have taken place at the school on February 23. According to initial assessments, it was stated that the video in question was recorded with the knowledge of the school administration and shared on the school's social media account. However, the statement also included information that the post was removed due to public backlash.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

The statement said, "An inquiry and investigation have been launched to clarify all aspects of the process, and an inspector has been assigned by our Directorate. Necessary administrative actions will be taken within the framework of regulations in line with the findings that will emerge as a result of the ongoing inquiry and investigation processes."

ALLEGED TO BE THE 'MUVAHHIDIN OATH'

It has been claimed that the oath reflected in the footage, which drew criticism, is the "Muvahhiddin Oath" (Oath of the Monotheists) recited within the "Tevhid and Sünnet Cemaati" (Tawhid and Sunnah Community), led by Halis Bayancuk, who is alleged to have links to Al-Qaeda and ISIS. In the video, it was observed that instead of the words "My ideal: To rise, to go forward" found in the previously used "Student Oath," the students repeated the phrases, "Our wish: To be among the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous."
