Schools closed in many provinces on January 5 due to heavy snowfall

The snowfall that has intensified in recent days in the Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions is negatively affecting daily life. Due to the significant drop in temperatures in the region and the increased risk of frost and icing, authorities have announced that education has been suspended in some cities.

In several cities and districts, governorates and district governorships have decided to temporarily close schools for Monday, January 5, citing the risk that weather conditions will pose to transportation and safety.

In the announcement made for the Kozluk district of Batman, it was stated that due to the expected snow and icing, schools in towns, villages, and hamlets outside the district center, as well as students under the bussed education system, will not be able to start classes tomorrow.

In Kahramanmaraş, it was reported that bussed education will be suspended for one day on January 5 in the Onikişubat, Türkoğlu, and Pazarcık districts due to expected adverse weather conditions.

Similarly, in the Kale, Pütürge, Darende, Yazıhan, and Kuluncak districts of Malatya, bussed education has been suspended for one day due to concerns that snow and cold weather will make transportation difficult. However, it was stated that classes will continue in schools in the Malatya city center.

In Şanlıurfa, as part of the measures taken, educational activities have been suspended for one day in the rural neighborhoods of the Eyyübiye, Haliliye, Karaköprü, Siverek, Viranşehir, Hilvan, and Bozova districts.

In the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, education has been suspended in all public and private schools on January 5 due to heavy icing and the risk of avalanches caused by the ongoing snowfall. The statement also noted that public employees who are disabled, have chronic illnesses, are pregnant, or are veterans will be considered on administrative leave, and citizens were urged to follow official announcements.

Schools will also be closed for one day in the Çatak district of Van due to snowfall and icing. Furthermore, due to an avalanche that occurred last week on the highway connecting the district to Van, one-way traffic is only being permitted for emergency vehicles, and other vehicles are not yet allowed to pass.

Teams are working intensively to reopen roads closed due to poor weather conditions and to return educational activities to normal. It was emphasized that citizens across the region should pay attention to the warnings issued by the authorities.
