Special circular from the Ministry of National Education for Istanbul... Class hours changed!

The Istanbul Governor's Office has changed class hours in schools with double-shift education across 34 districts, based on a circular from the Ministry of National Education. In these schools, the 40-minute class duration has been reduced to 35 minutes.

CIRCULAR FROM THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION TO GOVERNOR'S OFFICES

The circular requested that the start and end times of classes be arranged in a way that does not disrupt education and training, and that students do not encounter any negative situations. A circular titled "School and Class Hour Practice" was sent to all provincial governor's offices under the signature of Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin.

The circular recalled that it was decided to continue the current daylight saving time practice applied throughout the country to make better use of daylight, and stated that it is established as a principle in the Regulation on Secondary Education Institutions that the academic year must not be less than 180 working days.

The circular included the relevant provisions in the Regulation on Secondary Education Institutions and the Regulation on Preschool Education and Primary Education Institutions regarding the start and end times of classes in primary and secondary schools, and also explained that the authority to determine daily working hours according to the characteristics of regions and services is granted to provincial governor's offices under the Civil Servants Law No. 657.

The circular reminded that, in accordance with legislative provisions, provincial governor's offices are authorized to determine provincial-based working hours and class start times regarding requests for arrangements in the form of "winter time" due to the continuation of daylight saving time.

It was requested that class hours in schools be planned by taking into account sunrise and sunset times as well as social conditions, and that all necessary measures be taken to ensure that students do not encounter any negative situations by arranging the start and end times of classes in a way that does not disrupt education and training.
