"The path to low quality in every area of life was opened to gain a few extra votes"

According to YÖK Atlas data, students who achieved a negative net score across all YKS exams have gained university admission. There are even those who entered literature programs with a total net score of minus 9.5. While the two-year child development program was the most common department entered with negative net scores, it was noted that those who gained admission to literature programs remained below zero in both Turkish and literature.

According to a report by Mustafa Kömüş from Birgün, those with negative net scores have gained admission to 4-year universities. The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has updated its YÖK Atlas data. The latest update revealed how much the removal of the threshold has made gaining university admission easier. In addition to those who had negative net scores in subjects related to their departments in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) in previous years, this year there were also those who had negative net scores in the total questions.

Some even entered departments with scores of -8.75, -7.25, and -9.5. There is even someone who gained admission to Turkish Language and Literature after scoring -7.5 net in Turkish. The negative net scores in the associate degree programs of the child development department were particularly striking. Both two-year and four-year departments were filled with negative net scores. It was noted that most of these departments are in foundation universities. Some of the departments and universities entered with total negative net scores are as follows:

THERE ARE THOSE WHO GAINED ADMISSION TO LITERATURE WITH A -7.5 NET SCORE IN TURKISH

In addition to those who gained university admission with negative or zero net scores, the scores of those entering Turkish Language and Literature also drew attention. Those who gained admission to the Turkish Language and Literature department at Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Cappadocia, and Haliç universities had a Turkish net score below 0. Again, at Haliç and Cappadocia, admission to Turkish Language and Literature was gained with a net score below zero. In other words, people who could potentially become Turkish teachers upon graduating from their universities entered university with a Turkish net score below zero.

HOW MANY NET SCORES WERE REQUIRED BEFORE YÖK REMOVED THE THRESHOLD?

Following YÖK's removal of the threshold application for university entrance, the score of a student who achieved half a net score in Turkish or mathematics began to be calculated for the first time last year. In the TYT, the first part of the exam, the score of a candidate who achieves half a net score in either of these two subjects can be calculated even if they get everything wrong in the other subjects. Before the threshold was removed, it was mandatory to achieve at least 27 net scores for 4-year departments and 8.75 net scores for 2-year departments.

THEY COULD NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS IN THEIR OWN DEPARTMENTS

As in previous years, those who gained admission to departments such as physics, chemistry, history, and geography also had negative net scores in their own subject exams in the YKS. Especially in history exams, those who had negative net scores in both the first and second parts were notable:

• PHYSICS:

Journalist Bülent Mumay also commented on this situation on his social media account. Mumay's assessments are as follows:

Those who removed the threshold in the university exam to gain a few extra votes have opened the way for low quality in every area of life:

- Those who did not have a single net score in Turkish, but on the contrary, had a negative net score, became literature teachers.

- Students who did not get a single net score and fell into the negative are now participating in our surgeries.

- Those who entered university without hitting the threshold are restoring the houses we live in.

  • Those who have more wrong answers than right ones are looking after our children in nurseries!
