TÜİK announces: The problem of inequality in education is growing!

TÜİK has published its new report covering the health status and deprivation conditions of children. Data regarding the health and deprivation status of children aged 15 and under in Turkey reveal the difficulties faced by families. According to the "Child Health and Deprivation Module" included in the 2024 Income and Living Conditions Survey, while many children struggle with health problems, financial inadequacies negatively affect their education and quality of life.

The survey conducted in 2024 revealed that 94.5 percent of children aged 15 and under have a "good or very good" health status. However, this rate varies by age group. While 95.1 percent of children aged 0-5 are in a healthy condition, 93.5 percent of children in the 12-15 age range were assessed as having a "good or very good" health status.

POVERTY AFFECTS CHILDREN

In the TÜİK report, it was emphasized that 9.2 percent of households cannot buy new clothes for their children due to financial inadequacy. Furthermore, it was stated that the rate of children who cannot consume fresh fruit and vegetables at least once a day is 10.0 percent.

INEQUALITY IN EDUCATION IS INCREASING

Additionally, it is observed that children's education and quality of life are negatively affected by poverty. It was stated that 80.8 percent of parents of children who do not have a suitable space to study have an education level below high school. The inability to provide suitable conditions for children under 15 stands out as one of the factors leading to inequality in education.
