Yusuf Tekin takes a step back after 'moron' controversy: 'I said it with a somewhat crude tone'

While the allegation that questions were leaked in the High School Transition System (LGS) exam remains on the agenda, the expressions used by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin had also caused reactions in the public. Following the backlash, Minister Tekin took a step back, admitting that the language he used in his statements was "a bit crude."

Speaking at a press conference in recent days, Tekin had said in response to criticisms regarding the LGS, "We are explaining it clearly as if we are explaining it to a moron, but they are not satisfied; they still continue." These expressions had drawn major reactions from the opposition and the education community.

"I SAID IT WITH A SOMEWHAT CRUDE TONE"

Being a guest on the podcast program of AKP Istanbul Deputy Rümeysa Kadak, Tekin made a self-criticism regarding the statements in question. Pointing out that the process affects young students, Tekin used the expressions, "I said that with a somewhat crude tone in the press statement a few days ago because this is no longer something that can be endured. It is a pity for our children. One needs to act carefully."

Clarifying the allegations of irregularities regarding the LGS exam, Tekin argued that exam security was not compromised. He said, "A teacher copied the questions with a mobile phone during the exam, converted them to PDF, and shared them on social media. Yes, this is an individual violation. However, there is no problem regarding the general security of the exam."

Reminding of the criticisms directed at him, especially from the CHP Chairman, Minister Tekin said, "What saddens us is this: Speeches full of insults and slanders were made directly against me by the CHP Chairman. I did not respond to any of them with an expression that would cross the boundaries of courtesy. I responded to the criticisms, but those most affected by this situation are our children."

Minister Tekin claimed that he respects the public's right to information regarding the LGS, but that they have faced the same accusations despite making explanations multiple times.
