Imamoğlu's arrest affected election results: CHP surpassed AKP

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem Imamoğlu, who was detained on Wednesday, March 19, following a dawn operation and police blockade, was arrested on Sunday, March 23.

Following Imamoğlu's arrest, demonstrations were held across the country. Hundreds of thousands of people, primarily in Saraçhane, protested the arrest decision in many parts of the country.

STUNNING RESULT FOR AKP FROM THE LATEST POLL

The election poll conducted by ORC Research after Imamoğlu's arrest yielded striking results.

The CHP, which has emerged as the leading party in recent polls, once again placed ahead of the AKP.

While the gap between the main opposition and the ruling party is widening in almost every poll, the rise of the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi), whose leader Ümit Özdağ was also arrested, drew attention.

In the poll where ORC Research asked 3,160 people in 26 provinces between March 25-27 the question, “If there were an election this Sunday, who would you vote for?”, the CHP received 30.2 percent of the vote, while the AKP received 28.1 percent. The vote share of the rising Victory Party was 5.1 percent.

The poll in which ORC investigated voter preferences stood out with a response list of 13 parties.

The results of the poll, which offered options close to the number of possible parties that voters would face at the ballot box, were as follows:
