Local election statement from MHP's Yalçın: 'MHP is in the position of the 3rd party'

Following the March 31 Local Elections, representatives of political parties have begun their evaluations regarding the elections.

Most recently, MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın stated that his party was the 3rd party in the provincial general assembly.

Yalçın said the following in the relevant part of his statement:

"THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE STRIKING"

Our noble nation has reflected its will at the ballot box and has given very meaningful messages to every party and everyone. As a member of the People's Alliance, the MHP has drawn the necessary lessons from these messages. Before the national will, all political parties are humble. The results obtained are, of course, striking.

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW OUR GAINS TO BE DISREGARDED"

However, what is in question are the Local Elections, and it is necessary to analyze the results of the Local Administration Elections within their own dynamics. Attempting to characterize and interpret the picture that emerged in the Local Elections with the logic of General Elections would be a major mistake. Determinations, analyses, and evaluations made in this way will lead those who hold claims, words, and responsibilities down the wrong paths. The matter has been handled by our party from multiple angles, and work has already begun based on rational, objective methods and criteria regarding the reasons for the resulting ballot arithmetic. While this is the case, we will not remain a spectator to attempts to make the MHP's majority appear small through the results of the Local Elections. We will not allow our losses to be highlighted and our gains to be disregarded.

"THE MHP ENTERED THE ELECTIONS IN MANY PLACES WITHIN THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE"

We will not remain silent in the face of our party's special position in politics being targeted. We will not ignore attempts to render the MHP politically ineffective. We will not turn a blind eye to the distortion of the political picture that emerged in the elections, nor to the exploitation of changes in hands and duties in municipalities to pull them into other channels. We will not allow the efforts of our devoted, self-sacrificing comrades, who have worked day and night in the field for months, to be disregarded, belittled, or diminished.

We will not remain silent about the belittling of the favor shown by our loyal voters who support our party under all conditions. The most realistic and correct approach is for the general vote distribution of the parties to be determined through the independent votes cast in the provincial general assembly. As our Deputy Chairman Mr. Feti Yıldız announced today, according to YSK data, the MHP's provincial general assembly vote share in the Local Administration Elections on March 31, 2024, is 16.62%. Accordingly, the MHP is in the position of the third party. The MHP entered the elections in many places within the People's Alliance. When evaluating the general vote distribution, this fact must be handled exclusively.

HOW MANY VOTES DID THE MHP RECEIVE?

The MHP, which entered the March 31 Local Elections under the umbrella of the People's Alliance, saw its vote share in the Provincial General Assembly drop from 8.1 percent in 2019 to 6.6 percent on a party basis. With this result, the MHP ranked 4th, behind the YRP, which reached 7 percent of the vote.

In the Mayoral elections, the MHP dropped its 7.3 percent vote share in 2019 to 5 percent. Thus, it became the 5th party nationwide in Turkey, following the CHP, AKP, YRP, and DEM Party.
