No result in the 12th round of the Court of Cassation presidency election
No candidate was able to secure an absolute majority in the 12th round of the presidential elections held due to the expiration of Court of Cassation President Mehmet Akarca's 4-year term.
Mehmet Akarca was elected to the position of President of the Court of Cassation on March 24, 2020, and his 4-year term expired as of March 24.
In this context, ballot boxes were set up at the Court of Cassation on Monday to determine the High Court's new president, who will serve for 4 years, and the members of the Court of Cassation went to the polls. After no candidate was able to receive at least 175 votes, which is the absolute majority of the 348 members of the Court of Cassation, in the first 11 rounds of the election, the 12th round of voting was held today with the participation of Akarca, Kerkez, and Şentürk.
As a result of the voting, Mehmet Akarca received 98 votes, 3rd Civil Chamber President Ömer Kerkez received 105 votes, and 3rd Criminal Chamber President Muhsin Şentürk received 108 votes. While the participation in the election was recorded as 326, 3 of the votes cast were blank and 12 were considered invalid.
The election continues with the 13th round of voting. An absolute majority of the total number of members is required to be present in the elections.
