27 tons of illegally harvested mussels seized in İzmir
During inspections conducted in the Konak, Karabağlar, and Bornova districts of İzmir, 27 tons of illegal mussels were discovered and returned to their natural habitat.
Teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry carried out fisheries inspections at various locations in İzmir. During simultaneous checks, authorities seized 27 tons of mussels found to have been harvested illegally from a truck. Once it was determined that the mussels had been caught illegally, the collected seafood was handed over to the teams.
An administrative fine of 37,370 Turkish Lira was imposed on the truck driver. The seized mussels were released back into the sea to protect the species and prevent damage to the ecosystem.
Authorities emphasized that inspections and audits regarding fisheries in İzmir will continue strictly. It was stated that citizens should also be vigilant in the fight against illegal fishing.
