Action taken against scandalous structure in Antalya: Municipality seals it off

Antalya's unique cliffs, known as the 'Tufa Coastal Cliffs,' which stretch from Konyaaltı Beach Park to the Lara coast and reach heights of up to 40 meters, have been in the spotlight recently due to unauthorized structures.

The process began when Hüseyin Fırat, who was free-diving in the area, noticed a concrete and iron staircase among the rocks near Konyaaltı Street, leading to the discovery of an illegal concrete shack on the cliffs and a private elevator carved into the cliff face.

It was observed that the illegal structure identified by Fırat contained a canoe, chairs, a shower, and hunting equipment, as well as an iron door connected to the land and a room surrounded by concrete walls.

Investigations revealed that this shack belonged to an apartment building on Konyaaltı Street and provided direct access to the sea via a private elevator carved into the cliffs. Since the area is classified as a "Strictly Protected Sensitive Area," it was sealed by the Muratpaşa Municipality's municipal police teams. The illegal elevator was also closed for use.

Municipal officials also officially informed the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding the proceedings and requested an opinion on the steps to be taken next. Now, the course of action regarding the illegal shack and elevator will be decided in line with the new decision to be made.

The Muratpaşa District Governorate also issued a statement on the matter, noting: "Upon observing a cave opening into the rocks from the sea side of the cliffs on Konyaaltı Street, and a camera on the iron door belonging to the cave, the Muratpaşa District Governorate launched an investigation. Research conducted from the land determined that the cave in question belongs to an apartment building on Konyaaltı Street; that the cave was built approximately 40 years ago and that one could descend directly to the sea from the cave via an elevator; and that there was also a staircase inside the cave. The cave in question has been closed for use by the Muratpaşa Municipality after taking the necessary precautions."

On the other hand, it was reported that investigations are still ongoing regarding another shack consisting of wooden rooms on the cliffs below the area where the Muratpaşa Municipality's Barrier-Free Cafe is located. The fight against unauthorized structures continues in the region, which is known for its natural beauty.
