Agricultural costs continue to rise

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released the Agriculture-IPI data for April. According to this data, the index increased by 2.03 percent compared to the previous month, 12.56 percent compared to December of last year, 30.12 percent compared to the same month of last year, and 34.54 percent based on 12-month averages.

The Agriculture-IPI, which showed an increase of 53.08 percent in May 2024, had been on a downward trend until February 2025. However, it began to rise again starting in March, and this trend continued in April.

When examining the main groups, the index for goods and services used in agriculture increased by 2.13 percent compared to the previous month, while the index for goods and services contributing to agricultural investment increased by 1.45 percent. Compared to the same period last year, these indices recorded increases of 29.65 percent and 32.98 percent, respectively.

CHANGES IN SUBGROUPS

On an annual basis, 5 subgroups showed a lower change compared to the Agriculture-IPI, while 6 subgroups showed a higher change. In April, the subgroups with the lowest annual increase were energy and lubricants at 17.2 percent and agricultural chemicals at 18.19 percent. The highest increases were observed in veterinary expenses at 56.94 percent and other goods and services at 42.14 percent.

On a monthly basis, while one subgroup showed no change, 8 subgroups showed a lower change and 2 subgroups showed a higher change. The subgroup that did not show any change compared to the previous month in April was seeds and planting materials. During this period, the subgroups with the lowest increases were recorded as other goods and services at 0.3 percent and veterinary expenses at 0.71 percent. Conversely, the subgroups with the highest monthly increases were calculated as animal feed at 3.61 percent and machinery maintenance costs at 3.59 percent.
