Alanya avocados reach 55 TL: Producers are smiling!

While the harvest of Fuerte avocados has been completed in Alanya, the picking of Hass avocados has begun. Although avocados, which are the livelihood of many families in the region, have satisfied farmers in terms of price this year, rising input costs are worrying producers. Fuerte avocados found buyers at a peak price of 55 liras per piece this season. Producers are demanding that measures be taken to protect avocados against theft due to their high price.

Fevzi Elçi, who produces avocados on 20 decares of land in Alanya's Elikesik neighborhood, said, 'Our season was not too bad this year. But there is no stability in prices. A market should be established for this stability, just like for tomatoes and cucumbers. When you fall into the hands of certain people, some buy them for 10 liras, others for 5 liras. I am an avocado producer on 20 decares of land. My 5-6-year-old trees have just started producing. I am satisfied for now. Prices are good at the beginning and at the end, but they lower the prices when the supply increases in the middle. We want a market to be established for farmers.'

55 LIRA PER PIECE

Stating that the most expensive avocados are sold for 55 TL per piece, Elçi said, "At the beginning of the season, prices were around 35-40 TL on average. In November and December, they dropped to 25 TL per piece, and 250-gram products started to be sold for 15 TL. Currently, a 250-gram avocado is sold at a price between 50-55 TL; these prices are good, but it is difficult to find products on the market. I harvested 1 ton of Hass avocados yesterday and sold them for between 150-180 TL per kilogram. The harvest of Fuerte avocados begins in October and November and continues until March. The harvest of Hass avocados begins on February 15th and continues until April. The biggest expense for producers stems from labor. I demand that a market order be established for avocados."
