Countdown to snowfall in Istanbul begins! Governor's Office and AKOM warn: Harsh winter is coming

The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that temperatures will drop with the start of the new week and that the city will come under the influence of a cold wave.

In a statement made on the Governor's Office's social media account, it was noted that according to the forecasts of the Turkish State Meteorological Service, a significant decrease in air temperatures is expected in Istanbul starting today.

WHEN WILL IT START SNOWING IN ISTANBUL?

The ongoing precipitation is expected to continue locally strong until this evening. The rainfall, which will continue to be effective as of Tuesday, is expected to give way to sleet on Wednesday and snowfall in higher elevations.

Thursday and Friday are forecast to see intermittent snowfall. Authorities have warned citizens to be careful against adverse weather conditions.

COLD WEATHER AND SNOW WARNING FROM AKOM

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has also published its latest forecast report regarding the cold wave approaching the city.

According to the report, the rainy weather is expected to increase in intensity starting from the morning hours and strengthen by midday.

The statement indicated that a new cold wave will be effective across the country starting today, and temperatures are estimated to drop by 3 to 6 degrees suddenly.

According to AKOM's weather forecast, sleet is expected on Wednesday, light snowfall on Thursday, and heavy snowfall on Friday and Saturday.
