Downpour impact in the megacity: The district with the highest rainfall in Istanbul has been identified

Heavy rainfall that began around noon yesterday in Istanbul affected many parts of the city. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) stated that the precipitation, caused by a low-pressure system arriving from the Central Mediterranean, was accompanied by strong winds, particularly in the western districts.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS AND AFFECTED REGIONS

The rainfall began in Silivri, Çatalca, and Arnavutköy, intensifying in the evening hours in Arnavutköy, Eyüpsultan, and Sarıyer. During the night, it continued as thunderstorms in districts such as the Bosphorus area, Küçükçekmece, Bağcılar, Başakşehir, and Kadıköy. According to the İBB statement, the highest rainfall was measured at 58 kilograms per square meter in Şile Darlık.

Rainfall amounts recorded in other regions are as follows: Kartal Aydos Mountain 50 kg, Ümraniye 43 kg, Arnavutköy and Sancaktepe 35 kg, Pendik Ömerli Dam and Şile 33 kg, Kartal 32 kg, Üsküdar 31 kg, Büyükçekmece, Florya, and Kadıköy Göztepe 30 kg, Şile İsaköy and Çekmeköy Ömerli 28 kg, Tuzla 27 kg, Beylikdüzü 23 kg, Fatih 22 kg, Şişli, Beykoz, Eyüpsultan, Güngören Davutpaşa, and Sarıyer 22 kg, Silivri 17 kg.

The İBB announced that the rainfall is expected to continue as local showers on the Anatolian side until this afternoon, after which it will move out of the region.
