Downpours benefit Istanbul's dams: Occupancy rate rises to 58.03 percent

Rainfall throughout March in Istanbul has increased water levels in the dams. The average occupancy rate, which was 46.12 percent on March 20, reached 58.03 percent as of March 30. In 10 days, the total water reserve increased by 103 million cubic meters, rising from 400 million cubic meters to 503 million cubic meters. According to İSKİ data, it was stated that the average of 100-120 mm of rainfall that fell on the dam basins in Istanbul between March 20 and March 30, 2026, was directly reflected in the reserves. Istanbul's total water reserve was recorded as 503 million cubic meters.

While it was stated that the rainfall had an effect especially on large dams, the changes in some important dams were as follows:

- Ömerli: rose from 67.9 percent to 81.6 percent.

- Büyükçekmece: increased from 34.54 percent to 42.7 percent.

- Elmalı: reached 100 percent from 85.2 percent.

- Terkos: came to the 42.9 percent level from 29.4 percent.
