Experts warn! Is this a 'false summer'? "Do not be fooled by the temperatures"
Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Environment, Biodiversity and Climate Change Working Group member Prof. Dr. Doğan Yaşar drew attention to the rising temperatures in recent days, stating, "'La Niña' will follow this, and there will be a shift toward cooling."
It has been stated that the effects of the Super El Niño, which made its impact felt last year, are still continuing but will give way to La Niña in the coming days. Prof. Dr. Doğan Yaşar used the expressions, "Let us not be fooled by this heat right now. Air temperatures will gradually return to normal."
Stating that "we should not fear the heat," Prof. Dr. Yaşar said, "As temperatures rise, agricultural products increase, precipitation increases, and enjoyment increases. However, we are somewhat affected by the heat. In very hot weather, especially between 10:00 and 17:00, the elderly and those with high blood pressure should not go out. If they have business, they should schedule it outside of these hours. As long as we protect ourselves in terms of health, the advantages of high temperatures are very great."
Reminding that a "Super El Niño" was experienced last year, Prof. Dr. Yaşar said, "Its effects are still continuing. 'Super El Niño' means the oceans are heating up very, very much. Sea water warmed up by about 2 degrees. For this reason, the weather was very hot. For example, last April passed 4.3 degrees above the averages. It rose to approximately 16.3 degrees, whereas the average April temperature in Turkey is around 12 degrees. It was extraordinarily hot, but we are now approaching 1 year, and 'Super El Niño' is slowly losing its effect."
"DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE TEMPERATURES"
"'La Niña' will follow this. Let us not be fooled by this heat right now. Air temperatures will gradually return to normal. I do not really agree that temperature records could be broken this summer. It could happen if 'Super El Niño' continues, but in all likelihood, there will be a shift toward 'La Niña,' that is, cooling," he said.
Prof. Dr. Yaşar used the following expressions:
"Last year, the World Meteorological Organization issued a warning on July 4 that 'a Super El Niño could occur,' which indeed happened. In fact, on July 23, a sea water temperature record was broken in Turkey, in İzmir, with 32.3 degrees. That is a very serious figure."
"THOSE GOING INTO THE SEA SAY, 'WE ARE COLD'"
"There is nothing like that this year right now. It is even going on the cool side. Those going to the sea right now say, 'We are cold.' Yes, this is a natural thing. In other words, we are now coming to the end of the 'Super El Niño,' that is, the very hot periods. A movement toward seasonal normals has begun again. In all likelihood, 'La Niña' will begin, and the weather will cool down."
