IMM had announced it was on its way from Siberia: The date for snowfall in Istanbul has changed
According to the assessment made by IMM AKOM, the precipitation, which was expected to start as rain, was forecast to turn into snow on January 9 and 10. CNN Türk Meteorology Consultant Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen stated, "The probability of snow in Istanbul has begun to disappear."
IMM AKOM had assessed that the warm air brought by the southwesterly wind (lodos) would continue until Monday, January 8, and that starting from the evening hours of the beginning of the week, Istanbul would come under the influence of a cold air wave originating from the Siberian region.
Furthermore, in the statement made by the IMM, it was noted that, "With the system originating from Siberia, air temperatures are expected to drop by 5-8°C, and the precipitation, which will start as rain, is expected to turn into snow on January 9 and 10."
THE PROBABILITY HAS BEGUN TO DISAPPEAR
CNN Türk Meteorology Consultant Prof. Dr. Şen said, "The probability of snow in Istanbul has begun to disappear. It was already continuing with a low probability. Due to the 'heat island' effect, the temperature is not dropping to the snow threshold. We will look at the cold air that will come after this (January 12-13). On January 9-10, the coasts will have rain, including Istanbul, while the inland areas will have snow."
