Istanbul spent New Year's without snow: Prof. Dr. Şen gives a date

Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen noted that a cold wave will arrive in Istanbul on January 10-11 and that it will manifest as snowfall in the city.

Speaking to CNN Türk, Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen said the following:

"Air temperatures were above average. The lack of precipitation is also concerning. A cold wave is coming around January 10-11. It will also bring snowfall to Istanbul. There are still 10 days left. This probability may increase. A cold wave is coming that could drop temperatures by 5-6 degrees. If the systems do not change, I estimate that this system will bring snow to Istanbul."

"A COLD WAVE THAT WILL LAST 3-4 DAYS"

Stating that "it is difficult to say that winter arrived late and will last a long time," Şen said: "Winter will do its part. We had reported this months ago. Winter will be experienced in January and February. It has nothing to do with 2023 being the hottest year. It might bring such a winter that we could forget those hot days. It has nothing to do with global warming. There could be a snowfall like the one two years ago. We will report its intensity and amount in the coming days. It will be a cold wave that will last 3-4 days. We will see how much it will be in Istanbul."

Şen also added:

"According to my estimate, it will start around the evening of the 10th and become effective in Istanbul around Thursday and Friday. It looks like it will continue through the coming weekend. Eventually, this system will shift to Anatolia."
