It had reached the point of drying up completely, occupancy rate rose after rainfall
With the winter rains, the occupancy rate at the Tahtalı Dam, one of İzmir's most important water sources, has shown an increase once again. The water level in the dam, which had recently reached the point of drying up completely, has risen above 50 percent.
Following the drought experienced in İzmir, promising developments are taking place at the vital Tahtalı Dam. In the dam, where the rate had dropped to below 1 percent at the end of 2025, an increase began from the beginning of 2026. While the occupancy measured in February was at the 20 percent level, it approached 40 percent in March, and with the effect of the recent rainfall, the water level in the dam has moved above 50 percent.
The occupancy in the dam, which gave an alarm at 0.13 percent in December, has experienced a visible recovery in the recent period. Experts point out that this level of the dam was achieved in a short time thanks to the recent rainfall, but emphasize that it has not yet reached a truly safe level.
According to the current data shared by İZSU, although the increase in the occupancy rate in the dam is gratifying, calls to citizens regarding the sustainable use of water continue. Before the summer season, officials state that water conservation should not fall off the agenda, underlining that it is important to spend resources carefully to prevent new problems from arising in the coming periods.
