It set off from Siberia and is coming to Istanbul! IMM gives date for snow

According to the assessment made by IMM AKOM; the warm weather brought by the lodos (southwesterly wind) is expected to continue until Monday, January 8, and Istanbul is expected to come under the influence of a cold air wave coming from the Siberian region starting from the evening hours of the beginning of the week. 

With the system originating from Siberia, air temperatures are expected to drop by 5-8°C, and precipitation, which will start as rain, is predicted to turn into snow on January 9 and 10.

ISTANBUL IS READY FOR WINTER

IMM has completed its winter preparation work. Nearly 12 thousand personnel and more than 3 thousand vehicles and construction equipment will be on duty in the efforts to combat winter conditions.

There are 275 thousand tons of salt ready in IMM's warehouses to be used against icing in winter. IMM plans to provide a total of 60 thousand tons of salt to district municipalities. Snow clearing and salting teams will be on standby at 637 intervention points on the 4 thousand 23-kilometer road network under IMM's responsibility. 44 vehicles and construction equipment will be on duty on the Metrobus route. There will be 44 tow trucks on main arteries and ring roads. Planning to open barriers at 31 critical points for rapid intervention in roads experiencing problems and traffic accidents, IMM will also ensure that village roads are kept open with 170 tractors with snow-clearing attachments that it has placed under the control of neighborhood headmen (muhtars).
