Meteorological warning for avalanche, downpours, and snowfall

The General Directorate of Meteorology has released the weather report for March 20. A yellow-coded warning has been issued for 10 provinces. While thunderstorms are expected in Istanbul, avalanche warnings have been issued for many other provinces.

Meteorological warning for avalanche, downpours, and snowfall

According to the latest assessments made by the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM); the country overall is expected to be partly to very cloudy, with precipitation expected in the Marmara region (except for Edirne and Kırklareli), the Aegean, the Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, the Western and Central Black Sea, the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea, as well as Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

The precipitation, which will generally be in the form of rain and downpours, is expected to be sleet and occasionally snow in the interior Aegean, the Lakes Region, the north of Central Anatolia, the interior parts of the Western Black Sea, and the north and east of Eastern Anatolia. It is expected to be locally heavy rain and downpours in the surroundings of Adana, Osmaniye, and Hatay, as well as in the east of Southeastern Anatolia, and heavy sleet and snow in Hakkari, Bitlis, Muş, Ağrı, the northern parts of Van, and the eastern parts of Siirt and Şırnak.

Icing and frost are expected in the interior and eastern parts during the morning and night hours. There is a risk of avalanche in the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the north and east of Eastern Anatolia.

AIR TEMPERATURE

Temperatures are expected to decrease by 4 to 6 degrees in Central Anatolia and the Central Black Sea, increase by 2 to 4 degrees in the south of Marmara, and remain largely unchanged in other areas.

HEAVY PRECIPITATION WARNING

Since the precipitation is expected to be locally heavy rain and downpours in the surroundings of Adana, Osmaniye, and Hatay, as well as in the east of Southeastern Anatolia, and heavy sleet and snow in Hakkari, Bitlis, Muş, Ağrı, the northern parts of Van, and the eastern parts of Siirt and Şırnak, caution and vigilance are required against potential negative consequences.

STRONG WIND WARNING

Since the wind is expected to blow strongly (40-60 km/h) from the north and northeast in the west of Marmara and the Aegean coasts, caution and vigilance are required against potential negative consequences.

AVALANCHE DANGER WARNING

Caution and vigilance must be exercised as there is a danger of avalanche on sloping terrain with high snow cover in the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the north and east of Eastern Anatolia.

PROVINCES UNDER YELLOW-CODED WARNING

Ağrı, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Hatay, Muş, Siirt, Van, Batman, and Şırnak.
