Meteorology issues warning: Heavy rain and snow alert for 24 cities
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued warnings for sleet and snow in cities across the East and Southeast, and for heavy rainfall in the coastal Aegean region.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has announced that air temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, are expected to drop below seasonal norms in western regions starting Friday.
The warnings issued by the MGM are as follows:
The precipitation expected tomorrow (Wednesday, 06.12.2023) in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia is forecast to be heavy (21-50 kg/m2) rain and downpours in the vicinity of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Bitlis, Şırnak, and Hakkari; heavy to very heavy (21-75 kg/m2) rain and downpours in the eastern parts of Diyarbakır, as well as the vicinity of Batman, Siirt, Bingöl, Muş, and the western parts of Siirt; and heavy sleet and snow, with localized heavy snowfall in the southern parts of Van, northern parts of Hakkari, and the high and mountainous areas of Bingöl. Caution and preparedness are advised against negative impacts such as floods, water inundation, transportation disruptions, and icing in high and mountainous areas expected to receive snowfall.
The precipitation expected tomorrow (Wednesday, 06.12.2023) in the vicinity of Ağrı, Ardahan, and Kars is forecast to be heavy sleet and snow. Heavy precipitation, which will begin as rain and downpours in the vicinity of Erzurum, is expected to turn into sleet and snow during the night and morning hours, with localized heavy snowfall in high and mountainous areas. Caution and preparedness are advised against negative impacts such as floods, water inundation, transportation disruptions, and icing and frost in high and mountainous areas.
Local heavy thunderstorms are expected tomorrow (Wednesday, 06.12.2023) in the vicinity of İzmir, Aydın, and Muğla, as well as the Aegean coasts of Çanakkale and the Edremit Gulf. Caution and preparedness are advised against negative impacts such as flash floods, water inundation, lightning, local hail, the risk of waterspouts in coastal areas, short-term strong winds and storms, and transportation disruptions.
The rain and downpours expected in the vicinity of Adıyaman, Malatya, Elazığ, and Tunceli, as well as the eastern parts of Kahramanmaraş (Elbistan, Nurhak, Çağlayancerit, Pazarcık), are forecast to be heavy (21-50 kg/m2) from this evening until tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 06.12.2023), with heavy sleet and snow in the mountainous and high areas of Malatya, and heavy, locally intense snowfall in the high and mountainous areas of Tunceli during the night and morning hours. Caution and preparedness are advised against negative impacts such as floods, water inundation, transportation disruptions, and icing and frost in mountainous and high areas.
