Ministry imposes 1.6 million TL fine on Ankara Metropolitan Municipality!

Following reports received, teams from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change conducted an investigation and determined that wastewater was being discharged into Lake Mogan through a rainwater line located next to the tennis courts at Mogan Park, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. The investigation revealed that wastewater generated during bridge construction in the Hacılar neighborhood of the Gölbaşı district was being connected to the rainwater line without treatment and discharged into Lake Mogan.

Due to the lake's status as a Special Environmental Protection Area, a double penalty was applied to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, resulting in an administrative fine of 1 million 678 thousand lira. A criminal complaint has been filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those responsible.

Lake Mogan, which had previously made headlines due to pollution and foul odors, had been revitalized through the "Lake Mogan Bottom Sludge Cleaning Project" carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. 3 million 500 thousand cubic meters of bottom sludge had been removed from the lake. Ministry teams continue their inspections of the lake, which lies within the boundaries of the Special Environmental Protection Area.
