Sleet begins in Istanbul: Temperatures to drop to 3 degrees
Following the spring-like weather experienced across the country, temperatures have begun to drop. Sleet has started in the Arnavutköy, Beylikdüzü, Silivri, and Sultangazi districts of Istanbul. In the megacity, the temperature is expected to drop to 3 degrees by midday.
The cold air wave arriving from the Balkans began to show its effect starting Tuesday night, first in the Marmara Region and today across Anatolia, making winter conditions felt once again. As temperatures drop rapidly, thermometers in Istanbul are expected to fall to 3 degrees by midday.
With the drop in temperature, precipitation was observed turning into sleet in some parts of the city. In Thrace, winter showed a harsher face. In Edirne, the rainfall that continued throughout the night turned into snow as the temperature dropped to minus 1 degree.
AKOM HAD WARNED
Previous warnings issued for Istanbul are also noteworthy. The heavy rain and cold weather, which have been effective since the morning hours, have negatively affected daily life and transportation. According to AKOM data, the precipitation is expected to continue intermittently throughout the day and is expected to be seen as sleet, especially in higher elevations and areas far from the center, after the evening hours.
