Temperatures in Istanbul to drop by 10 degrees: Heavy rain is coming

Following temperatures that have been above seasonal norms, a significant change in weather conditions is expected in Istanbul as of today. According to the May 12 assessments by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), weather conditions will change rapidly starting from the evening hours following days that felt like summer in the city.

High temperatures, which hovered between 24-26 degrees throughout the day and caused many people to walk around in summer clothing, will decrease rapidly in the evening hours. Especially in the later hours of the day and at midnight, temperature values are expected to drop to around 15°C.

According to meteorological reports, regional downpours and thunderstorms will be effective. Based on the data obtained, it is predicted that between 2-5 kilograms of precipitation per hour will fall after the evening hours. Citizens are advised to be prepared for rain and to go out with umbrellas and appropriate clothing.

In the statement made by AKOM, the information note shared under the heading "Attention" emphasized that weather conditions could change suddenly, especially in the early morning and evening hours. Istanbul residents were asked to be cautious against the sudden drop in temperature.

Forecasts for the rest of the week show that the cooling of the air will not be short-lived. It was reported that after the rain expected on Wednesday morning, the sky will be completely cloudy on Thursday, and the highest temperature values will drop to the 17°C level. It is expected that the summer-like days in Istanbul will be replaced by cool and rainy weather.

Citizens are advised to be prepared for the cold and rainy weather conditions that will be effective, especially on Thursday.
