12 managerial changes in 14 weeks in the Super Lig

In the Trendyol Super Lig, the first 14 weeks of the season have once again seen head coach departures take center stage. During this period, 12 out of 18 teams that failed to show the expected performance have changed their managers. Most recently, Kasımpaşa parted ways with their Georgian head coach Shota Arveladze.

Gaziantep FK opened the curtain

The first team to make a managerial change in the 2025-2026 season was Gaziantep FK. The Southeastern Anatolian team, which welcomed a new era under İsmet Taşdemir, parted ways with him after losing 3-0 to both Galatasaray and Konyaspor in the first two weeks. Burak Yılmaz, who was brought in to replace İsmet Taşdemir, made a good start, recording 6 wins, 4 draws, and 2 losses in 12 matches.

Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, and Başakşehir experienced changes at the start of the season.

Following Gaziantep, Istanbul representatives Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, and RAMS Başakşehir also underwent managerial changes. For the Black Eagles, who started the season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the early exit from Europe was particularly influential in this change. After losing to the Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, managed by Arda Turan, in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, the black-and-white team was subsequently eliminated by the Swiss side Lausanne in the UEFA Conference League play-off round. Following these results, they parted ways with Solskjaer on August 28. After this departure, Beşiktaş handed the managerial seat to Sergen Yalçın.

Fenerbahçe started the season with Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager, who was criticized for the style of play displayed last season, began the new term with 1 win and 1 draw in the league. In the UEFA Champions League, the Canaries eliminated the Dutch side Feyenoord in the third qualifying round but were knocked out by the Portuguese team Benfica in the play-offs.Thus, the Jose Mourinho era at Fenerbahçe ended on August 29. Following Mourinho, Domenico Tedesco became the new head coach of the yellow-navy team.

RAMS Başakşehir also parted ways with Çağdaş Atan after being eliminated by the Romanian side Craiova in the UEFA Conference League play-offs and subsequently recording two draws in the league. Başakşehir entrusted the team to Nuri Şahin, who also managed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

Selçuk Şahin and Gisdol's adventures did not last long.

Eyüpspor, which finished the Super Lig in 6th place last season under Arda Turan, reached an agreement with Selçuk Şahin, who had been an assistant to Vincenzo Montella for the Turkish National Team, after Turan took charge of the Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. However, after collecting only 5 points from 1 win, 2 draws, and 5 losses in 8 matches, the purple-yellows thanked Şahin for his service.  

Another team that experienced a managerial change during the international break was Kayserispor. The Kayseri team ended Markus Gisdol's tenure after they could only collect 5 points from 5 draws and 3 losses in 8 league matches. The yellow-reds only found the back of the net 5 times during this period while conceding 17 goals.

Emre Belözoğlu remained in charge for 267 days.

Another team that saw a managerial departure in the Super Lig was Antalyaspor. The red-whites saw 3 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses in 8 matches under Emre Belözoğlu. The 1-1 draw with Kayserispor in the last 3 weeks, the 2-0 loss to Fenerbahçe, and the 5-2 defeat against Rizespor made the departure inevitable. Following these results, head coach Emre Belözoğlu submitted his resignation to the management, and it was accepted.

After Belözoğlu, Erol Bulut was brought in to lead the team. The Antalya representative under Bulut's management left the field with 1 win, 1 draw, and 4 losses in 6 matches.

New teams Gençlerbirliği and Fatih Karagümrük also made changes.

Gençlerbirliği and Fatih Karagümrük, which started competing in the Super Lig again this season, were also among the teams that made changes. After collecting 8 points from 2 wins and 2 draws and 6 losses in the first 10 weeks of the league, the capital team bid farewell to head coach Hüseyin Eroğlu. Volkan Demirel took over after Eroğlu.

Fatih Karagümrük bid farewell to Marcel Licka after the 10th week, as he could not achieve the expected breakthrough. Licka recorded 1 win, 1 draw, and 8 losses in the 10 matches he managed for the Istanbul representative. Karagümrük later decided to continue with Onur Can Korkmaz.

Recep Uçar and İlhan Palut collected the same points.

Çaykur Rizespor head coach İlhan Palut and Konyaspor head coach Recep Uçar bid farewell to their teams after collecting the same number of points, despite having managed a different number of matches.

Palut recorded 14 points in 14 matches in Rize with 3 wins, 5 draws, and 6 losses.  

In Konyaspor, Recep Uçar also achieved 14 points in 11 matches with 4 wins, 2 draws, and 5 losses. Both head coaches parted ways with their teams.

Çağdaş Atan took over the duty at Konyaspor after Uçar, while Recep Uçar, who left Konya, replaced Palut.

The latest departure was from Kasımpaşa.

The last team to experience a managerial departure in the Super Lig was Kasımpaşa. The navy-whites announced that the Shota Arveladze era had ended. Kasımpaşa, under Shota's management, remained at 13 points in 14 matches with 3 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses.
