15 kilometers to Damascus: Israel's advance in Syria continues

Following Bashar al-Assad's departure from Syria, Israel intensified its airstrikes, hitting military targets across the country.

It was reported that the Israeli army moved from the occupied Golan Heights toward Damascus and has approached to within just 15 kilometers of the capital.

ADVANCE HAS ACCELERATED SINCE YESTERDAY

Yesterday, it was reported that Israeli tanks had reached Mount Hermon, located 25 kilometers from Damascus. Mount Hermon, the highest point in Syria, is significant due to its strategic location. Today, it was noted that Israel has advanced from Mount Hermon to areas within 15 kilometers of Damascus. However, claims that Israeli tanks have entered the town of Katana have not been confirmed by Anadolu Agency sources.

STATEMENT FROM ISRAEL

Israeli Army Spokesperson Avichay Adraee, in a statement on the social media platform X, claimed that reports of the Israeli army advancing on Damascus were "untrue." However, according to information from the region, the Israeli army's advance, which began from the Golan Heights, continues.

A TOTAL OF 250 TARGETS STRUCK

According to Anadolu Agency, one of the largest airstrikes in Israeli history was carried out against Syria. It is stated that the Israeli army has struck more than 250 targets in Syria. These targets include military bases, fighter jets, surface-to-air missile systems, weapons production facilities, and ammunition depots.

THE LARGEST OPERATION IN 50 YEARS

According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, for the first time in 50 years, the Israeli army launched simultaneous attacks on all of Syria's air bases. The newspaper stated that Israel has seized a historic opportunity to destroy "the last significant weapons" in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime.

The report noted that Israel used hundreds of fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles in its operations, and that the attacks have neutralized approximately 300 targets so far.

STRATEGIC TARGETS DESTROYED

It is claimed that there has been a significant weakening in Syria's air defense systems following Israel's attacks. Israel aims to increase its superiority in the region by eliminating military structures and defense capabilities in Syria.
