5 arrested in female lawyer murder: Suspect's statement revealed

In the incident that took place on April 29 in Ağaköy Neighborhood, the tension between lawyer Hatice Kocaefe, who had initiated enforcement proceedings on behalf of her sister due to a debt dispute, and Hakkı Ç. ended in bloodshed. The suspect opened fire from inside a car at the father and two sisters walking in front of a warehouse. In the attack, Elif Ç. was wounded in the knee, while lawyer Hatice Kocaefe was critically injured by a bullet to her chest. Despite all interventions, Kocaefe could not be saved after being rushed to the hospital.

It is alleged that tensions escalated between the parties following the enforcement process initiated due to a debt owed to Elif Ç. It was claimed that the suspect was uncomfortable with lawyer Hatice Kocaefe handling the process and had made threats.

On the day of the incident, it was stated that the suspect, Hakkı Ç., arrived in the area by vehicle, blocked the path of the father and two sisters walking in front of the warehouse, and opened fire from inside the car. In the attack, Elif Ç. was wounded in the knee, while Hatice Kocaefe was shot in the chest and lost her life.

Following a successful operation by the Public Security Branch Directorate's Murder Bureau teams, 7 people involved in the incident were detained. After a meticulous investigation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Hakkı Ç. and those involved in the incident, A.Ç., E.Ü., S.S., and H.S., were arrested. V.A. and S.U. were released under judicial control.

In his statement to the police, suspect Hakkı Ç. argued that the incident was not planned, saying, "I did not set an ambush; I saw them by chance. I fired towards their legs without getting out of the vehicle." The suspect also defended himself by saying, "My intention was not to kill; I shot the lawyer unintentionally."

However, security camera footage included in the investigation file revealed that the suspect had been driving around the village square for a while before the incident. In the footage, it was seen that the suspect was wandering in the same area and, after a while, headed toward the point where the attack took place.

In his statement, the suspect, who stated that he opened fire after seeing Elif Ç. and stopped firing when he noticed other people around, explained that he fled rapidly after the incident and tried to hide by going to different locations. The suspect, who was later caught in the house where he was hiding, also handed over the weapon he used in the incident to the police.

The moment of the attack was captured second by second on security cameras, and the footage shows the vehicle approaching, opening fire, and the two sisters collapsing to the ground.

While the detained suspect was arrested by the court he was brought before, the investigation into the incident by the Bursa Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch Directorate continues.
