8 different minimum wage hike scenarios: From 16 to 40 percent
As the new year approaches, all eyes are on the minimum wage hike that will directly affect the income of millions of employees. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will meet in December, but potential hike rates are already being discussed behind the scenes.
There is curiosity about what the minimum wage will be for 2026. There are 8 different raise scenarios on the table, ranging from 16 percent to 40 percent.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Security reconvened the Tripartite Advisory Board before the meeting. While labor and employer unions are calling for the commission's structure to be made more equitable, some unions have announced that they will not participate in this year's negotiations.
8 DIFFERENT SCENARIOS
According to a report by CNBC-e, 8 different raise scenarios are on the agenda for 2026.
If a 16 percent raise is applied: The net minimum wage will be 25,641 TL.
If a 20 percent raise is applied: The net wage will rise to 26,522 TL.
If a 24 percent raise is applied: The minimum wage will be 27,409 TL.
If a 25 percent raise is applied: The net wage will rise to 27,630 TL.
If a 28.5 percent raise is applied: The wage will be 28,404 TL.
If a 30 percent raise is applied: The minimum wage will rise to 28,735 TL.
If a 35 percent raise is applied: The wage will be 29,840 TL.
If a 40 percent raise is applied: The new net minimum wage will be 30,945 TL.
WHEN WILL IT BE ANNOUNCED?
In the new year, unemployment benefits, the severance pay ceiling, military and maternity debt payments, internship wages, and voluntary insurance premiums will be recalculated along with the minimum wage. The current minimum wage, which is applied as a net 22,104 TL, has a total cost to the employer of 30,621 TL.
The new wage is expected to be announced by December 31, 2025, at the latest, and to come into effect as of January 1, 2026. Last year's minimum wage was announced on December 24.
