Experts shared their advice with young people from Generation Z who want to be successful in their professional lives.

Since the pandemic, hybrid and remote working systems have created significant transformations in the business world.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, is expected to make up more than 32 percent of the workforce by 2032.

A report by the American newspaper The Washington Post points out that a significant portion of Generation Z missed out on internship and in-person work opportunities due to the pandemic.

Experts interviewed by the newspaper share the following advice for young people looking to adapt to professional life:

Don't be afraid to ask questions

Experts say that on their first day at work, young people should not hesitate to communicate with other employees and ask about anything that is on their minds.

Paaras Parker from Paycour, a company that develops software for human resources (HR) departments, shares this advice:

You might feel uncomfortable about this at first, but if you don't ask questions, those around you won't be able to tell that you are having a problem.

Traci Wilk, who has worked as an HR expert for over 25 years at companies like Starbucks and Coach, also says, "No matter what, ask questions and get feedback."

Beware of artificial intelligence

Every workplace may have a different approach to using AI-powered software. Experts point out that young people should obtain clear information about this when they start a job.

Janine Pelosi, CEO of video technology company Neat and former executive at Zoom, says the following:

View artificial intelligence as a tool to support you, not to do your job for you.

Share your thoughts

Experts state that young people entering the workplace with new ideas and perspectives should not hesitate to share their thoughts.

Matt Abrahams from Stanford University notes that the comments young people make, which could improve certain processes, are important, and he uses the following expressions:

You are seeing some things for the first time, and you can highlight that. Focus on the value you bring.

Make yourself indispensable

Wilk says that young people entering the workforce, regardless of the industry, must put in extra effort to stand out.

The HR expert states that young people should become active members of the team by not hesitating to turn on their cameras during online meetings and by speaking up against behaviors they perceive as wrong.

Pelosi, on the other hand, points out that by taking on extra tasks and volunteering for certain projects, young people can both refresh their self-confidence and become one of the most valued employees in the workplace.
