Aircraft crash drill at Çanakkale Airport: Emergency scenario carried out

A "Large-Scale Aircraft Crash and Rescue Exercise" was conducted within the scope of the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) Çanakkale Airport Emergency Plan.

The drill, coordinated by the Çanakkale Airport Directorate, was prepared in cooperation with the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Provincial Police Department, the Provincial Health Directorate, the Çanakkale Municipality Fire Department, the Turkish Red Crescent, the Turkish Airlines (THY) Station Chief's Office, and the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management.

In the drill, where approximately 200 personnel took part on Metin Oktay Street, students from the ÇOMÜ Emergency Aid and Disaster Management Department portrayed the victims and their relatives.

According to the scenario, an ATR 72 type aircraft with 13 passengers and a crew of 5 crashed near Sarıçay due to a technical malfunction.

Following the crash, the lifeless bodies of some individuals were recovered from the wreckage of the plane.

The injured were removed from the wreckage by teams and transported by ambulance to Mehmet Akif Ersoy Çanakkale State Hospital and the ÇOMÜ Health, Research and Application Hospital.

The exercise was monitored by the directors of the relevant institutions and airport managers.
