Babies sacrificed for illicit gain: The gang's secret conversations have been exposed!

The inner workings of a gang in Istanbul that generated illicit profit by referring newborn babies to contracted hospitals have been revealed. During the investigation, wiretaps captured chilling statements between nurse Mehtap S. and gang member Hasan Basri G., such as "kill the baby."

The relevant indictment notes that in addition to the negligent behavior that led to the deaths of babies, fraud was committed in hospitals using forged documents.

It was stated that the suspects generated illicit profit from the Social Security Institution (SGK) by ensuring babies remained in hospitals for extended periods. Following this scandal, which spanned many private hospitals in Istanbul, doctors such as Fırat S. and İlker G. are expected to be tried with demands for prison sentences ranging from 180 to 273 years.

PHONE CONVERSATIONS REVEALED

The investigation into the gang that generated illicit profit by referring babies to contracted hospitals in Istanbul and caused their deaths through negligence has been completed, and an indictment has been prepared. The phone conversations included in the indictment have now emerged.

"KILL THE BABY"

In a conversation between suspect Mehtap S., a nurse at one of the private hospitals mentioned in the indictment, and suspect Hasan Basri G., a member of the organization, it was determined that they were treating a baby patient under inappropriate conditions. The recordings include statements such as, "Mehtap, kill the baby; can a baby have a saturation of fifty?" and "Oh, I'm going to kill it, but you know it's a problem if I kill it too."

THEY ADMITTED TOO MANY PATIENTS

In a conversation between the organization's leader, Dr. Fırat S., and suspect Ceren Hatice K., phone calls made on a day when an inspection was conducted by the District Health Directorate were revealed in the indictment. In the conversation, Ceren Hatice K. said, "Doctor, they came for an inspection from the ministry. They raided the place, you know, they are currently checking the steps and everything, and I have 28 patients. I mean, the patient capacity of this place is 23, that's why," to which Fırat S. replied, "Okay, you already have discharges; don't you have 3 patients to discharge today? Arrange the discharges."

"WE WILL BE ON THE NEWS, THEY WILL PUT BARS OVER OUR EYES IN OUR ID PHOTOS"

Phone conversations between nurse Hakan Doğukan T., who handled patient tracking for the 11 hospitals mentioned in the investigation, and Hasan Basri G. were also included in the indictment. In the conversations, Hakan Doğukan T. said, "We will be on the news, they will put black bars over our eyes in our ID photos," to which Hasan Basri G. replied, "This time they will really take us in."

In a conversation between nurse Hasan Basri G. and a person named Funda S., it was noted that he said, "So many babies were admitted yesterday, Funda, all of them were like s..., I don't understand how that child recovered. Are their blood results really clean?" When Funda S. said, "They are really clean," Hasan Basri G. replied, "Funda, they were all convulsing and moaning, that last one born was like a monkey."

Funda S. then said, "Hasan, don't trust the results of the blood in our laboratory, do I have to say that out loud?"

"WHAT DO WE CARE, LET THE BABY DIE"

The indictment also included phone conversations between nurse Hakan Doğukan T. and suspect Hüseyin G. following the death of a baby.

In the recordings, Hüseyin G. said, "What do we care, let the baby die so we can complain comfortably," to which Hakan Doğukan T. replied, "Buddy, it's a pity, the child died right in front of my eyes."

In the continuation of the conversation, after Hakan Doğukan T. said, "They didn't attach a TDP, didn't start inotropes, didn't do kavid, didn't do curosurf," Hüseyin G. replied, "They didn't do anything, they said let it die." In another phone conversation between nurse Hakan Doğukan T. and Hasan Basri G., they were seen discussing the officials who came to inspect the hospitals mentioned in the investigation and requested to examine patient files. When Hakan Doğukan T. said, "Hasan, okay, screw it, just give it to them, they keep asking for it urgently," Hasan Basri G. replied, "Doğukan, if it goes on like this, they will kill us. This is very wrong," and Hakan Doğukan T. responded, "Oh, nothing will happen, just give it."

"REMOVE EVERYTHING, WHATEVER THERE IS"

It was recorded that suspect Hasan Basri G. called a person named Z.N.Ç. on the day of the inspection and said, "An inspection has arrived, clear the area, remove everything, whatever there is, don't leave any files or anything," to which the person named Z.N.Ç. replied, "Okay, but I'm alone, let someone come and help me. What files, what inspection? Should we remove the documents?"

THEY BILLED THE SGK BY PRETENDING MEDICATIONS WERE USED

The indictment prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that wiretapping and technical surveillance were conducted regarding the allegation that doctors Fırat S. and I.G. used the neonatal intensive care units of private hospitals for financial gain rather than treatment.

In the indictment prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that suspect doctors F.S. and İlker G. acted in violation of the Regulation on Private Hospitals. The indictment explained that the suspects billed the SGK for medications they did not use as if they had been used, thereby generating illicit profit. It was also stated in the indictment that there were money transfers between the members of the organization via internet banking.

The indictment stated that suspect Fırat S. operated the neonatal intensive care units of numerous private hospitals in Istanbul and placed healthcare workers he acted in concert with into these units. It was stated that Fırat S. and İlker G., through other suspects, transferred baby patients born in state or private hospitals whose treatment was deemed appropriate to be carried out in other hospitals due to overcrowding to the hospitals they had contracts with.

BABIES WERE KEPT IN THE HOSPITAL FOR LONG PERIODS

Within the scope of the investigation, it was announced that the suspects ensured that babies remained in the hospital for long periods and caused damage to the public institution by receiving high amounts of payment from the SGK. The indictment, which also stated that the suspects caused the deaths of babies who could not be treated with appropriate treatment methods, reported that ambulance driver G.M.Ö. and those handling the transfer procedures, R.K., F.A., and S.Y., learned about the baby patients who needed to be transferred and relayed them to the organization's leaders, Fırat S. or İlker G.

Within the scope of the prepared indictment, it was requested that the suspects identified as the organization's leaders, Fırat S. and İlker G., be sentenced to 180 to 273 years in prison for 10 counts of 'causing death by negligent behavior,' 'fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations,' 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime,' and 11 counts of 'forgery of official documents.' Prison sentences in varying proportions were requested for the other suspects in the indictment.

On the other hand, it was also requested that the hospitals and companies mentioned in the indictment be closed and their assets be seized. The indictment was sent to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the preparation of the formal charge sheet.
