Car trapped under overturned semi-trailer on TEM highway: Husband and wife lose their lives

The accident occurred around 15:30 in the vicinity of Malta Neighborhood on the Izmit section of the TEM Highway.

According to the information obtained, a chain-reaction accident occurred involving a car with license plate 34 VE 5842 driven by İzzet Kaysi, which was traveling in the direction of Ankara, and a gravel-loaded semi-trailer with license plate 34 HG 9019, a semi-trailer with license plate 06 FH 8538, and an LPG tanker with license plate 02 EB 786, whose drivers' names have not yet been learned.

Due to the force of the collision, the trailer of the semi-trailer with license plate 34 HG 9019 overturned, and the gravel it was carrying spilled onto the road.

The driver, İzzet Kaysi (78), and his wife, Mesude Kaysi (73), who were in the car trapped under the overturned trailer, were pinned inside the vehicle.

Upon notification, fire, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. It was determined by health teams that the couple, İzzet and Mesude Kaysi, who were extracted from the vehicle through the intensive efforts of the fire department, had lost their lives.

The couple's bodies were taken to the morgue for autopsy procedures.

Due to the accident, the Ankara-bound direction of the TEM Highway was closed to traffic for a while, and kilometers-long vehicle queues formed in the region.

Gendarmerie teams directed drivers to the D-100 highway from the Kuruçeşme (West) TEM toll booths.

After the vehicles were removed and the road was cleared, traffic flow began to be provided in a controlled manner. Meanwhile, the highway was also viewed from the air by drone.
