Choking hazard alert! Jelly straws pulled from shelves

Following a series of revelations regarding adulterated products such as pork, horse meat, yogurt containing medication, and cheese containing starch, food safety disclosures continue to spread.

According to a report in Yeniçağ, the Dutch import company Herman Kuijper BV and its German distribution partner Go Asia Deutschland GmbH have initiated a recall process for this dangerous confectionery.

These products have been immediately removed from shelves in Go Asia stores in Germany. Consumers have been informed not to use the affected products and to return them.

The recalled products include “Jelly Straws assorted flavors 10 pcs, 200 gram” and “Jelly Straws assorted 15 pcs, 300 gram” under the Sweet Mellow brand.

Specifically, lot numbers HERLB023B and HERLB024 are affected by this situation. These products were offered for sale in various federal states.

STATES WHERE THE PRODUCTS WERE SOLD HAVE BEEN INDIVIDUALLY ANNOUNCED

The affected states include Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland.

Consumers in these states are requested to return the recalled products.

POSES A CHOKING HAZARD FOR CHILDREN

In a statement released by the company, it is emphasized that the specific shape and consistency of the jelly sticks pose a high risk of choking for young consumers.

The Berlin Food Safety Authority states that the soft texture and the liquid inside increase the risk of the product getting stuck in the throat.

The consistency of the jelly sticks makes rapid intervention difficult in emergency situations.
