The citizen's agenda is the minimum wage hike... The figure the government is considering has become clear

As the government's forecast for the 2025 minimum wage increase emerges, the prevailing view within the AKP leadership has become clear.

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye, the rate of increase for the minimum wage has been determined in line with this figure.

Economic management, taking into account the expected inflation rate for 2025, is proposing a 25 percent increase in the minimum wage.

In this scenario, the new minimum wage would be at the level of 21,250 liras. The general trend in the business world is also toward raising the minimum wage to the 22,000-23,000 lira level.

Minimum wage negotiations between worker and employer representatives will begin as of December.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan stated that the process would begin in December, saying, "I hope that the minimum wage will be determined at a level that will improve living standards and will not harm the general stability of our economy."

Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan also expressed at a meeting with investors in Washington, USA, that a 25 percent increase rate is consistent with inflation targets.

Opposition parties, however, find the government's proposed increase rates insufficient.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel argued that the minimum wage should be at least 30,000 liras, stating, "We stand with Türk-İş, Hak-İş, and DİSK in every struggle they undertake. We will never form a bond of affection with those who accept a minimum wage below 30,000 TL. A minimum wage below 30,000 TL is absolutely unacceptable."

The minimum wage negotiations, which will begin at the start of December, will take place with the participation of worker, employer, and government representatives. The amount of the new minimum wage, which millions of employees are eagerly awaiting, will depend on the outcome of the negotiations between the parties.

In Turkey, 6 out of 10 workers earn less than 20 percent above the minimum wage. This rate was around 4 out of 10 people 20 years ago.

The months in which the minimum wage exceeds the hunger threshold are very limited. This indicates that a significant portion of workers live below the hunger threshold.
