The full text of the article published in The Daily Mail titled "Confessions of a millionaire's cleaner: The embarrassing, disgusting and bizarre things I've seen while cleaning the homes of the super-rich" is as follows:
"I am a cleaner – I've been running my own business for over 30 years – and living in the Home Counties means some of my clients are millionaires."
'Filthy rich' might be a metaphor for extreme wealth, but for me, the expression reflects the absolute truth. My life is spent trying to bring order to their disgusting homes. I have witnessed many nauseating sights, from rooms filled with dog feces to toilets that haven't been flushed. I have learned that the more money you have, the more likely you are to be greedy and rude. I often say that I wipe my shoes when I leave the most luxurious homes, not when I enter.
Let's take a few of my former clients; let's call them Mr. and Mrs. R. The couple lives near one of the best schools in England, which their daughter attends. The school's annual tuition is approximately 40,000 pounds. I worked for them for four hours a week for four years. However, because Mrs. R. clearly viewed me as 'lower class,' she avoided talking to me and only gave orders.
Their house, on the other hand, was incredibly dirty. Every week, I would leave it clean like a show home, but when I arrived the following week, I would find it as if I had never cleaned it at all. So, everything would start over from the beginning, and I never had a chance to finish the work.
The showers were so moldy that no cleaning product could remove the blackening – believe me, I tried. I had to wash their dirty dishes in the sink because I couldn't even open the dishwasher door – the smell made me nauseous. I didn't understand how they put up with this situation; but cleaning that was not my job, so I remained silent.
I could even tolerate dirty underwear thrown on the floor. But the incident that really drove me crazy was the day they asked me to change the sheets on the marital bed. The sheets were so stained and dirty that I couldn't even bear to look at them – I don't want to give details because of how disgusting they were. I resigned at that moment.
The truth is, many homes that look perfect from the outside present a completely different kind of chaos on the inside.
There was one house I called the 'Filthy Mansion.' It was a small but flashy house with two dogs, old furniture, and worn-out carpets covered in spider webs.
The first time I went, my vacuum cleaner ran over dog feces in the hallway – because of the old-fashioned lighting in the house, the floor was barely even visible. When I tried to clean the kitchen floor, I encountered the same sight again. You might think the landlord would be embarrassed, but on the contrary, saying, "Don't worry, my girl, just go around it," she covered it with a newspaper. From then on, I had to mop around the newspaper every week.
I was forbidden from entering the bedrooms – perhaps that was a good thing, because I took a peek inside once, and it was like a hoarder's paradise, filled with junk everywhere.
The final straw was the day one of the dogs came inside with a dead chicken in its mouth and the daughter of the house shouted, "Dad, the dog ate a chicken again." The girl later argued with her mother over lettuce and threw the lettuce at her mother's head.
As my mother used to say, “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” My own sheets are always spotless, and you could eat off the floor in any room of my house—even though I have two dogs.
This is one of the reasons why I am a cleaner. In addition to wanting to be my own boss and set my own hours, I derive great satisfaction from cleaning and organizing people's messy homes. Seeing a messy house become sparkling clean makes me happy. I may not be rich, but I can pay my bills. (Patronlar Dünyası)
