Exploding refrigerator reduces house to ashes

The fire started around 00:30 in a shanty house located on Divriği Street in the Yıldıztabya neighborhood of Gaziosmanpaşa.

According to the information obtained, the fire, which started as a result of a refrigerator explosion, spread to 3 other neighboring shanty houses due to the effect of the wind.

The family living in the shanty house where the fire started managed to escape just in time. Upon notification, numerous health, fire, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.

As a result of the teams' intervention, which lasted approximately 1 hour, the flames were brought under control and the fire was prevented from spreading further.

While the shanty house where the fire started was completely reduced to ashes, the other 3 houses to which the fire spread were partially damaged.

Homeowner Emine Balkan spoke about the fire, saying, "My husband arrived and I woke up to the sound. The refrigerator was burning, I grabbed the children and ran outside. I immediately called the fire department. After that, the refrigerator must have exploded, and the other buildings caught fire as well."

After the flames were brought under control, the teams completed cooling operations and left the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the fire.
