Former police officer commits massacre with a shotgun: 2 dead, 2 injured

The incident occurred around 21:50 in Coburlar village, located in the Çaycuma district. 32-year-old former police officer Okan Özcan, who had been medically retired from the force some time ago due to alleged psychological problems, arrived at the village coffeehouse with a shotgun for reasons yet to be determined.

Özcan fired the shotgun multiple times, and the pellets struck coffeehouse owner Kasım Özcan (59), Aydın Özbakış (37), Gökhan G. (39), and Hüseyin G. (67).

While Okan Özcan fled the scene in a vehicle, the injured and others who overcame the shock of the incident reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the report, numerous medical teams and gendarmerie units were dispatched to the village.

HE TURNED HIMSELF IN TO THE POLICE WHILE TEAMS WERE SEARCHING EVERYWHERE

Following the notification of the suspect's description, search points were established, and searches were conducted at all other checkpoints.

However, the suspect arrived at the Çaycuma Courthouse and turned himself in, stating that he had carried out an armed attack on a police officer. Gendarmerie teams took the suspect into custody and seized the shotgun believed to have been used in the incident.

TWO OF THE INJURED DIED IN THE HOSPITAL

The injured, who received initial intervention at the scene, were transported to Çaycuma State Hospital by ambulance.

Aydın Özbakış and Kasım Özcan, who were seriously injured, could not be saved despite all interventions and lost their lives. It was learned that Kasım Özcan had previously served as the village headman (muhtar).

It emerged that the murder suspect, Okan Özcan, had made accusations against certain individuals on his social media account some time before the incident, posting, "They have formed a prostitution ring."

It was also learned that his family had previously obtained a restraining order against him due to his history of violence.

While the gendarmerie is investigating the primary motive behind the suspect's actions, the relatives of the deceased suffered nervous breakdowns at Çaycuma State Hospital.
