Istanbul was shaken yesterday by an incident in which two young women were murdered, ending with the suicide of the murder suspect.
19-year-old Semih Çelik killed two young women within a half-hour interval before throwing himself from the Edirnekapı walls.
In the incident that took place on Fevzipaşa Street in the Fatih Derviş Ali neighborhood, Semih Çelik first decapitated a young girl and threw her head down from the city walls.
He then tied a rope around his neck and took his own life by jumping from the city walls. The police quickly identified Çelik and uncovered the horrific details behind the incident.
The terrifying details of the incident have come to light as a result of the investigations.
It has been determined that the murder suspect Çelik also killed 19-year-old Ayşenur Halil in Eyüpsultan half an hour before he killed İkbal Uzuner in Fatih.
Police teams identified the murder suspect in a short time. It was revealed that Semih Çelik was registered in the Fatih district and had no prior criminal record. It was learned that Çelik worked as a butcher.
Adem Çelik, the father of murder suspect Semih Çelik, stated that his son had psychological problems and had previously received treatment.
The father, who works as a courier, stated that the victim Ayşenur Halil, whom his son killed in Eyüpsultan, was his son's girlfriend, and that İkbal Uzuner, whom he killed in Fatih, was his schoolmate.
Investigations following the father's statements revealed that Semih Çelik had 5 different treatment records at various hospitals within the last year.
It was determined that they received treatment at Eyüpsultan State Hospital, Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, and the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine hospitals.
According to Pol-Net records, missing person reports had been filed twice previously for Çelik, and there was a record of a suicide attempt.
During a search of the murder suspect Çelik's home, a charcoal drawing of a female figure with the head and body separated was found.
Police stated that this drawing bears similarities to the manner in which İkbal Uzuner was killed in Fatih. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
