He killed his ex-wife and wounded his son, claimed 'I am the Mahdi': Even state officials know it

In his opinion, the public prosecutor requested that the defendant be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and an additional 20 to 32 years in prison.

The incident occurred on July 27, 2024, at an apartment on Kazım Karabekir Street in the Yeni neighborhood of the Gölcük district. Allegedly, Mustafa Y. (50) arrived at the home of his ex-wife, Sözen Tutci (55), and opened fire with a handgun. While the woman, targeted by the bullets, lay on the ground in a pool of blood, Mustafa Y. also shot his son, Vedat Y. (33), in the leg. Vedat Y. then fired back at his father, wounding him. Medical teams confirmed that Sözen Tutci had lost her life. After receiving treatment at the hospital, Vedat Y. was taken into custody and later released under judicial control after being brought to the courthouse in a wheelchair. Mustafa Y., who was seriously wounded, was discharged after approximately one month of treatment at Kocaeli City Hospital. Upon being taken into custody, Mustafa Y. was arrested by the court and sent to prison.

Lawsuit filed against father and son

A lawsuit was filed against Mustafa Y. for 'premeditated murder of an ex-spouse,' 'attempted premeditated murder of a descendant,' 'violation of residential immunity,' and 'violation of Law No. 6136 by possessing and carrying an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.' A separate lawsuit was filed against his son, Vedat Y., for 'attempted murder of an ascendant' regarding his actions against his father.

The 4th hearing of the case, opened at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court, continued. The detained defendant, Mustafa Y., and his lawyer attended the hearing. The prosecutor stated that Mustafa Y. harbored hostility toward his ex-wife, Sözen Tutci, and that this hostility was the cause of the incident. The opinion noted that the defendant believed Sözen Tutci was having pornographic videos made and that he believed his son, Vedat Y., was not his biological child. For this reason, it was recorded that the defendant formed an intent to kill his ex-wife and son, obtained a weapon, made a plan, and arrived at the scene.

Request for aggravated life imprisonment and a total of 20 to 32 years in prison

In the opinion, it was requested that defendant Mustafa Y. be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'premeditated murder of an ex-spouse' regarding his actions against Sözen Tutci, and 14 to 21 years in prison for the attempted premeditated murder of his son, Vedat Y. Additionally, it was requested that the defendant be sentenced to 1 to 3 years for violation of residential immunity and 5 to 8 years for the possession of a serious-caliber weapon.

Regarding defendant Vedat Y., the opinion stated that his actions were aimed at preventing an attack, thus falling under the scope of self-defense, and recommended that no punishment be imposed.

During the hearing, it was read that the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) could not reach a conclusion regarding the mental health report requested in the previous session and that the defendant needed to be placed under observation for evaluation. Upon this, the defendant said, 'My mental health is sound. I was sent by the Supreme Creator to guide people. No one will come after me. I am the king awaited by the Jews, the Messiah awaited by the Christians, and the Mahdi awaited by the Muslims. This situation was revealed to me in 2023. State officials know this too. They will not come and take me until I announce this. They will not come and take me until I announce this. Bullets do not pass through me; if you don't believe it, let's try. I request my release. I did not kill Sözen; I am innocent,' he said.

In his defense during previous hearings, defendant Mustafa Y. had claimed that Sözen Tutci was killed by Vedat Y.

To be kept under observation for a mental health report

The court panel decided that, in accordance with the ATK specialized board decision, the defendant should be placed under observation and that the report to be prepared should be sent to the court, and that his detention should continue.
