He tearfully received the bodies of his daughter and 5 grandchildren
The bodies of a 7-month pregnant mother and her 5 children, who lost their lives in a fire at a prefabricated structure where greenhouse workers were staying in the Kepez district of Antalya, were handed over to their relatives following procedures at the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute. The father of the young woman who perished in the fire was overcome with grief as the bodies were collected.
The fire occurred on Friday, March 20, around 02:00, in a prefabricated structure used by greenhouse workers on 310th Street in the Gaziler neighborhood of Kepez district.
According to the information obtained, a fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason in the prefabricated structure used as a residence in the area where the greenhouses are located.
Upon the notification made by neighbors who noticed the flames to the 112 Emergency Call Center, numerous fire, gendarmerie, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Meanwhile, citizens in the surrounding area also tried to intervene in the fire with their own means. However, the intervention was insufficient due to the flames that engulfed the entire structure in a short time.
The tragedy was revealed after the extinguishing efforts
Four people from the foreign national family inside were pulled out with the help of citizens during the fire.
The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams, who reached the scene, made intense efforts to prevent the flames from spreading to other adjacent structures. As a result of the teams' long efforts, the fire was completely extinguished in the early hours of the morning.
Following the extinguishing efforts, it was determined that 6 people from the same family, 5 of whom were children, had lost their lives in the prefabricated structure.
Leyla Elali (26), who was learned to be 7 months pregnant, and her children Muna Ahmed (9), Fatma Ahmed (8), Hayat Ahmed (7), Iman Ahmed (5), and Mahmut Ahmed (4) lost their lives in the fire.
Şevvah Ahmed (29), Mahmut Ahmed (53), Ahmet Ahmed (2), who were affected by the smoke in the fire, and the business owner Rahman Genç were taken to the hospital by ambulances after the initial intervention at the scene.
"Tomorrow is the holiday, go to sleep early"
While it was learned that the father and son affected by the smoke are still being treated at the hospital, it was learned that the father had told his children before the fire, "Tomorrow is the holiday, go to sleep early," and that he himself had gone to sleep in the early hours. The bodies of the mother and her 5 children who lost their lives were taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute morgue after the examinations at the scene.
The bodies of the 5 children and the 7-month pregnant mother, brought to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute, were received by Leyla Elali's father, İsmail Ali, his relatives, and Zeytinlik Neighborhood Headman Naime Aksu after the procedures were completed.
It was observed that father İsmail Ali could not hold back his tears in front of the morgue, where great sorrow was experienced.
It was learned that the bodies of the mother and 5 children who lost their lives in the fire tragedy will be sent to their hometown of Manbij, Syria, to be buried.
