Key military actors in Syria, the leader of the jihadist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Abu Mohammad al-Julani and the leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the umbrella organization for the PKK terrorist group in Syria, held a critical meeting.
It was emphasized that military issues were discussed in detail during this meeting.
Bassam Ishak, the Washington representative of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), underscored the significance of the meeting in his statement, noting, "This meeting took place following the meeting held last Monday in Damascus with the new Syrian administration. The main focus of this meeting was military issues, but it is clearly seen that communication and coordination between the parties are strengthening," he said.
Stating that the SDF has been in constant contact with HTS following the operations in Aleppo, Ishak added, "We have been in regular contact with HTS since the armed groups entered Aleppo last year, and the active role of the SDF in this process has been important."
This meeting was the first to take place following the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Regarding the SDF's previous non-participation in meetings, Ishak evaluated, "This latest meeting was officially announced, which shows that the disputes between the parties are now beginning to be resolved. This is a positive step toward ensuring peace in the region," he stated.
