Husband held the murdered woman, father-in-law slaughtered her

In an incident that took place in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara, Başak Gürkan Arslan was stabbed to death by her father-in-law. A funeral ceremony was held for Arslan at the Pir Sultan Abdal Cemevi in Ankara. Arslan's mother, Makbule Gürkan, her father, Cemal Gürkan, and her relatives were unable to hold back their tears.

Arslan's coffin was carried by women. Slogans were also chanted at the funeral to draw attention to femicide. Relatives of the late Başak Gürkan Arslan claimed that her husband, who was in the process of divorcing her, was also present at the scene when the incident occurred.

Arslan's sister, Yaprak Nar, described the day of the incident, saying, "My sister picked up her daughter from kindergarten halfway through her orientation and went home. They were watching the cameras outside the house and saw that she was home. Her father-in-law and her husband went to the house and entered. The father-in-law said, 'I will handle this.' He went to the kitchen and took a knife. My sister was alone with her daughter. Her daughter says, 'My grandfather stabbed my mother with the knife, my mother ran outside, and when she ran, she fell. She has a huge blow right here on her head. My father held her, and my grandfather slaughtered my mother; my mother's blood was on the floor, I saw the bones in her throat. My mother looked at me so badly. It was the first time I saw her look so bad with my own eyes.' All of this happened in front of her five-year-old daughter," she said.

Emphasizing that they want justice, Nar stated, "They are inside now. But we want justice. Can it be like this? Can it be like this? Can anyone who feels like it just go and kill someone? They had a court hearing on the 23rd of this month. They had come and sat with my parents. They said they wouldn't pay alimony. We said, 'Fine.' 'Fine, don't pay alimony.' Everyone has their own job and life anyway. Look, femicides are happening. Let's separate amicably. Let everyone go their own way. They aren't the only ones separating. They had said 'fine.' Then, after leaving the house, they went there, and these things happened," she said.

İhsan Kaplan, one of the site managers, explained that they went to the scene after hearing a noise and learned about the situation at that moment. Stating that they were shocked when they heard about the incident, Kaplan expressed that they had never witnessed any arguments involving the family until that time.
