Imamoglu's arrest shakes politics: An Imamoglu storm in the polls! Here are the latest survey results

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was detained at his home on the morning of March 19 on charges of 'corruption' and 'terrorism'. Imamoglu, who was arrested on March 23 on charges of 'corruption', was sent to Silivri Prison.

This development sparked major reactions across Turkey, leading to street protests and significant changes in the political arena.

DAYS OF PROTESTS IN SARACHANE

Following Imamoglu's arrest, protests were held in many cities. The center of the protests was Sarachane, where the IBB building is located. Citizens were called to Sarachane every day at 20:30 to raise their voices against the arrest.

CHP HELD ITS PRIMARY AND DETERMINED ITS CANDIDATE

Imamoglu's arrest did not prevent the primary election that the CHP had decided to hold on March 23. On the contrary, the party leadership added "solidarity ballot boxes" next to the ballot boxes open only to CHP members and invited all citizens to vote.

While there was intense interest in the primary, the results were notable. Imamoglu was elected as the CHP's presidential candidate, receiving 14 million 850 thousand votes.

HBS Research stated that field studies are ongoing and made the following assessment:

"The CHP has reached its highest vote share in recent times. The decline in the AK Party continues. The IYI Party, on the other hand, has entered an upward trend."
