Individual with autism beaten with a piece of wood for looking at a woodshed
In the İzmit district of Kocaeli, it is alleged that an individual with 85 percent autism and epilepsy was beaten with a piece of wood while riding his bicycle because he looked at a bakery's woodshed. The victim's brother, Yuşa Şenol, who received 6 stitches to his head and had his arm placed in a cast, said, "When we arrived at the hospital, I couldn't recognize my brother. He had a gash on his head, severe swelling on his arm, and huge bruises on his back and legs."
The incident occurred yesterday around 16:30 in the Yenişehir neighborhood. Ertuğrul Şenol (32), who has 85% autism and epilepsy, looked into a bakery's woodshed while riding his bicycle. It is alleged that a person from the workplace, seeing Şenol looking at the woodshed, forcibly dragged him inside and beat him with a piece of wood.
It is claimed that the suspect struck the man on various parts of his body and then threw him out of the workplace onto the street. Şenol, who was taken to the hospital by medical teams arriving at the scene following reports from bystanders, received 6 stitches to his head and had his arm placed in a cast. It was also determined that there was swelling on Şenol's body. The family has filed a complaint against the suspect.
"I COULDN'T RECOGNIZE MY BROTHER"
The brother of the beaten young man, Yuşa Şenol, stated that he could not recognize his brother at the hospital and reacted to what had happened. Stating that he was at work during the incident, Şenol said, "My father was on an Umrah pilgrimage. The police reached my father, and he called me.
When we arrived at the hospital, I couldn't recognize my brother. He had a gash on his head, severe swelling on his arm, and huge bruises on his back and legs. We stayed at the hospital for hours under the supervision of doctors. This isn't just a slap or a punch; this is attempted murder, plain and simple," he said.
"WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HIT SOMEONE 12-13 TIMES WITH A PIECE OF WOOD?"
Stating that the suspect was making up excuses for himself, Şenol said:
"We haven't received an explanation from the police. The individual has also filed a complaint. He might have thought, 'Did he enter my woodshed?' but such a thing cannot be a reason for an attack. There isn't even a single defensive mark on my brother. What does it mean to hit a defenseless autistic adult 12-13 times with a piece of wood? A person with a conscience wouldn't do such a thing."
Stating that many autism associations and lawyers have reached out to them after the incident, Yuşa Şenol noted that they want the suspect to receive the harshest punishment. Şenol said, "Thankfully, autism associations and lawyers have contacted us regarding this matter. They are all continuing their support. We hope and expect that this incident will be brought to the judiciary as soon as possible and that this person will be tried in the harshest way. That is our wish," he expressed.
It was learned that Ertuğrul Şenol, who was subjected to the attack, is a licensed athlete and has achieved second and third-place finishes in Turkey in the long jump category.
