Is the DEM Party electorate closer to the AKP or the CHP? 'Reverse transition' observed
Public opinion researcher Mert Uzunsoy made significant assessments regarding the tendencies of the DEM Party electorate following the new process initiated by Abdullah Öcalan's call to lay down arms. Uzunsoy claimed that a reverse transition is occurring among DEM Party voters.
The discussions on the resolution process, which returned to the agenda with the statements made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli in recent weeks, have stirred the political arena. Following these developments, a remarkable step came from Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK. It was reflected in the corridors that Öcalan made a call to the organization to "lay down arms."
Another important step in the process took place on Thursday, April 10. On that day, the Imralı delegation met with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This contact caused a great stir in public opinion.
Sharing his assessments on the subject with SÖZCÜ TV, public opinion researcher Mert Uzunsoy shared data on how the developments are reflected in voter behavior. Uzunsoy pointed out that a significant change has begun, especially in the DEM Party base.
"For the first time, we are observing a reverse transition among DEM Party voters," said Uzunsoy, stating that this transition is not toward the AKP, but toward the CHP.
Uzunsoy noted the following:
“We can see a significant shift in votes from the DEM Party to the CHP. This is a situation we are observing at this scale for the first time in the current political atmosphere. Trust, clarity, and the expectation of change are effective in the voters' orientation.”
"WE ARE SEEING A REVERSE TRANSITION FOR THE FIRST TIME"
Uzunsoy used the following expressions:
-7 out of 100 voters who say they voted for the DEM Party in 2023 say they will vote for the CHP today. This is a larger transition than we have seen in the recent period.
-We used to see transitions from the CHP to the HDP and DEM Party in general elections. For the first time, we are seeing a reverse transition.
-We conducted a face-to-face survey across Turkey between April 4-8.
-Data from one of the leading companies in the sector was also shared. A result that overlaps with our data emerged there as well.
-We know that the tendency of DEM Party voters to vote for Mr. Ekrem is slightly higher. In Ankara, almost half of the voters cast their votes in favor of Mr. Mansur.
-It is not very accurate to base things on old stereotypes regarding the DEM Party. Especially for DEM Party voters in the West.
-Advanced secularization, urbanization, and convergence toward Ankara-based political parties continue among DEM Party voters.
