Istanbul Governor Gül responds to 'Daylight Saving Time' question by citing fundamental issue: He explained the problem in Istanbul

Governor Gül made important statements regarding the agenda during a live broadcast. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül also clarified whether the daylight saving time application would be reintroduced.

Governor Gül's statement is as follows:

"There is no such thing as winter time or summer time. The fundamental issue in Istanbul is this; if our schools are to have 6 hours of classes per day and there is double-shift education, we need 12 hours of daylight. Unfortunately, urbanization in Istanbul is flawed; we have poor urbanization and we need urban transformation.

Schools that were not earthquake-resistant have been demolished, so our number of schools has decreased somewhat. It takes at least 2 years for a school to be completed. Istanbul is practically like a construction site. Construction of our schools is ongoing in almost every district.

In places where there is double-shift education, we reduced the class duration from 40 minutes to 35 minutes so that we can make the most of daylight. I wish it could have remained at 40 minutes. We have nearly 200 schools under construction, and until they are completed, we have slightly reduced class hours to make life easier for our children."
